Ontogen + Lurie Children’s Advances Sterile Fluid Delivery Innovation with Multi-Disciplinary Collaboration
Medical innovation thrives on collaboration, and a recent partnership between Ontogen Medtech and Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago exemplifies this. Working with Lurie Children’s Innovate2Impact (I2I) team, surgeon innovator Dr. Seth Goldstein, Dr. Justin Ryder, and a multidisciplinary group of healthcare professionals, the team is developing a new device to improve sterile fluid delivery in operating rooms.
This initiative began with the I2I Hackathon: Medical Devices in 2023, where clinicians identified challenges in transferring sterile fluids onto the sterile field. Through collaboration with Ontogen Medtech, concept refinement led to the development of a functional prototype aimed at reducing contamination risks and needlestick injuries while optimizing workflow efficiency.
On November 20, 2024, Ontogen Medtech presented the prototype to a cross-disciplinary team of surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists, pharmacists, and operating room leaders at Lurie Children’s. Participants engaged in hands-on testing and provided crucial feedback on safety, usability, and potential clinical applications. Their insights will inform further design iterations and commercialization strategies.
By combining Lurie Children’s clinical expertise with Ontogen Medtech’s engineering innovation, this partnership is driving forward a safer, more efficient solution for sterile fluid delivery.
